As a child, I had a strong interest in anything related to art. Drawing, painting, sewing, even dance, interested me. Creating something from nothing was a way for me to express myself and I sought out any and every opportunity to do just that. I grew up just south of Boston, MA where affordable art programs, as they are today, were difficult to find. I was fortunate enough that my mother had discovered, and enrolled me in, an art program offered through a local museum.
As my first project I transformed a rock into a turtle with popsicle-stick feet. I took pride in my creation and gave it to my mother as a thank you. She kept it for over 20 years and it has now reappeared as the inspiration for Turtle Feet. |
